The systematic review "The Progress in Bioprinting and Its Potential Impact on Health-Related Quality of Life" discusses the potential of bioprinting to significantly improve health outcomes. Bioprinting, the process of depositing living cells and biomaterials to create bioengineered constructs, can create various biological structures, including skin, blood vessels, cartilage, and even entire organs. It also has applications in drug testing and regenerative medicine. The review, which included 128 full-text articles, suggests that bioprinting can reduce patient waiting times for organ transplantation, improve the chances of successful implantation of mature tissue, and increase the availability of suitable organs for transplantation. However, challenges such as biomechanics, material selection, ensuring a bacteria-free environment, achieving the proper molding of printed structures, providing sufficient blood supply to the printed structures, and ensuring their long-term survival need to be addressed. The document also highlights the potential of bioprinting in hair follicle regeneration, vision restoration, dentistry, and cancer treatment.
