TLDR Biotin supplementation during isotretinoin treatment for acne may help maintain skin hydration and improve hair growth.
The study investigated the impact of isotretinoin and biotin on 60 patients with acne vulgaris, divided into two groups of 30. Both groups received isotretinoin, but Group B also received biotin supplementation. After four months, Group B experienced a significant increase in anagen hair ratio and a decrease in telogen hair ratio, indicating improved hair growth parameters. Additionally, while skin hydration decreased in both groups, the decrease was significantly less in Group B, suggesting that biotin helps maintain skin hydration. The study concluded that biotin supplementation can prevent some adverse effects of isotretinoin treatment, particularly in maintaining skin hydration and improving hair growth. However, the study's small sample size and lack of post-treatment analysis suggest the need for further research.

Key treatments for hair preservation include minoxidil, finasteride/dutasteride, and microneedling, with additional options like specific shampoos, oils, biotin, zinc, tretinoin, clascoterone, and low-level laser therapy. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reducing stress, and addressing nutrient deficiencies can also support hair health.

The responses vary, with some users noting improvements in dandruff and hair loss with treatments like Dutasteride, while others experienced hair loss without dandruff.
