TLDR Rumex plants have potential health benefits, including antihypertensive, antiviral, antibacterial, and antitumor effects.
The review summarized the biological activity of 26 species of the genus Rumex L. from studies conducted between 2014 and 2019. It highlighted that species such as R. acetosa, R. crispus, and R. obtusifolius were well-studied for their pharmacological properties, including antihypertensive and antiviral activities. The review noted that while some mechanisms of the extracts' effects were described, the information was incomplete. Additionally, species like R. alveolatus and R. maritimus were identified as promising for further research due to their potential antibacterial, antitumor, antihyperglycemic activities, and their ability to stimulate hair growth and combat hyperpigmentation.
