TLDR Biodegradable microneedle patches help topical steroids work better for prurigo nodularis.
The study investigated the use of biodegradable microneedle (MN) patches to enhance the penetration of topical steroids in treating prurigo nodularis. It included an in vitro test and a clinical study with 24 East Asian patients. The in vitro results showed increased steroid penetration with MN patches. Clinically, patients applied mometasone furoate cream twice daily, with MN patches weekly on one side of the body. After four weeks, the MN-treated side showed significantly greater lesion reduction and lower pruritus scores. The study concluded that MN patches could improve treatment for refractory skin diseases like prurigo nodularis.
