TLDR The extract from marine green alga Chlamydomonas sp. W80 has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, hair growth, immune-boosting, and skin lightening effects.
The study explored the bioactivities of a 50% ethanol extract from the marine green alga Chlamydomonas sp. W80, focusing on its potential for skin lightening and hair growth promotion. The extract effectively inhibited melanin production in B16 melanoma cells and reduced endothelin-1 and stem cell factor production, which are involved in skin pigmentation. It also promoted hair growth by enhancing dermal papilla cell proliferation by 119.2% at 25 µg/mL and inhibiting testosterone 5α-reductase, with an IC50 value of 285 µg/mL, suggesting its potential use in treating hair loss and cosmetic applications.
