The study investigated the effects of bimatoprost eye drops on the eyelash follicles of 15 male rabbits over 4 weeks. Results showed a significant increase in eyelash length in treated eyes compared to controls, with treated eyelashes measuring 11.60±0.46 mm versus 9.75±0.33 mm in controls. Microscopic analysis revealed that bimatoprost treatment led to thicker epidermis, multiple hairs growing from the same follicle, and enhanced pigmentation without inflammation. These findings suggested that bimatoprost could potentially be used to prevent eyelash loss (madarosis) associated with chemotherapy by strengthening eyelashes if treatment begins 1 month prior to chemotherapy.
