TLDR Bicalutamide may be a promising alternative treatment for female pattern hair loss.
The article discusses the potential use of bicalutamide, an oral antiandrogenic drug, for the treatment of female pattern hair loss (FPHL). The authors conducted a retrospective review of 44 women receiving bicalutamide for FPHL and found a mild increase in liver transaminases in 11.4% of patients, but no patients discontinued treatment. Other adverse effects included hair shedding, transient amenorrhea, endometrial hyperplasia, and headache. The authors suggest that bicalutamide may be a promising alternative treatment for FPHL, but further studies are needed to confirm its efficacy and safety.
