TLDR MED1 affects skin wound healing differently with age, speeding it up in young mice but slowing it in older mice.
The study investigated the role of MED1 in skin wound healing using keratinocyte-specific MED1 null mice (Med1(epi-/-)). In 8-week-old Med1(epi-/-) mice, wound healing was accelerated compared to wild-type mice, with increased epithelial migration and cell proliferation, linked to decreased follistatin expression and enhanced MAPK pathway activity. However, in 6-month-old Med1(epi-/-) mice, wound healing was delayed, with reduced cell proliferation and hair follicle stem cell contribution, suggesting age-related differences in MED1's role. The findings highlighted MED1's novel function in keratinocytes and its potential as a therapeutic target for skin wound healing and aging.
