TLDR A woman experienced hair loss, nail changes, bone marrow suppression, and low blood protein after taking azathioprine.
A 38-year-old woman developed telogen effluvium (acute hair loss), Muehrcke's lines (hypopigmented transverse bands on nails), myelosuppression, and hypoalbuminaemia as adverse effects from taking azathioprine, which she was prescribed for facial dermatitis at a dosage of 50 mg/day for 3 months. The hair loss and other symptoms appeared two months after an episode of azathioprine-induced pancytopenia that required hospitalization. Treatment for these conditions included clobetasol shampoo, minoxidil, and zinc supplements, although the outcomes of these treatments were not stated in the document. The authors of the case report attributed the telogen effluvium and Muehrcke's lines to the myelosuppression and hypoalbuminaemia caused by azathioprine.
