TLDR Ayurvedic treatment successfully regrew hair in a woman with alopecia areata.
This case report details the successful Ayurvedic management of a 22-year-old woman with alopecia areata (AA), characterized by patchy hair loss and a SALT score of 22%. Conventional treatments had failed, leading to the use of an Ayurvedic approach involving Kuttana Karma (microneedling with a 1 mm Derma-roller), Shirolepa (herbal paste application), and internal Ayurvedic medications. Over a one-month treatment period, the patient received weekly Derma-roller sessions, daily application of Rakta Gunja beeja choorna lepa (10gm), and oral intake of Rasayana choorna (6gm). This regimen resulted in steady hair growth improvement, reducing the SALT score to 0% by the final visit. The treatment enhanced scalp blood circulation and nutrient absorption, addressing the root cause of the disease, and demonstrating the potential effectiveness of Ayurvedic therapies in treating Indralupta (AA).
