TLDR The new wound dressing improves healing and tissue repair better than conventional dressings.
The study developed an asymmetric adhesive wound dressing, SIS/PAA/LAP, which outperformed conventional dressings like Tegaderm in terms of tissue adhesion strength (~33 kPa) and burst strength (~22 kPa). It maintained high cell viability (~95% with L929 fibroblasts) and demonstrated strong angiogenic capacity. In animal models with full-thickness skin injuries in rats and Bama miniature pigs, the dressing accelerated tissue vascularization and improved tissue repair outcomes. The release of bioactive ions such as Mg2+ and Si4+ facilitated cell migration, proliferation, and angiogenesis. These findings suggest that the SIS-based patch is a promising candidate for wound care, hernia repair, and cardiovascular stents.
