Asymmetric Adhesive SIS-Based Wound Dressings for Therapeutically Targeting Wound Repair

    TLDR The new wound dressing improves healing and tissue repair better than conventional dressings.
    The study developed an asymmetric adhesive wound dressing, SIS/PAA/LAP, which outperformed conventional dressings like Tegaderm in terms of tissue adhesion strength (~33 kPa) and burst strength (~22 kPa). It maintained high cell viability (~95% with L929 fibroblasts) and demonstrated strong angiogenic capacity. In animal models with full-thickness skin injuries in rats and Bama miniature pigs, the dressing accelerated tissue vascularization and improved tissue repair outcomes. The release of bioactive ions such as Mg2+ and Si4+ facilitated cell migration, proliferation, and angiogenesis. These findings suggest that the SIS-based patch is a promising candidate for wound care, hernia repair, and cardiovascular stents.
