TLDR Kidney stones and hair loss are significantly related in people under 60 years old.
A study published in Renal Failure in 2015 found a significant correlation between urolithiasis (kidney stones) and androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in patients younger than 60 years old. The study was a well-designed cross-sectional cohort study, but the authors did not measure serum testosterone levels, the active metabolite of testosterone, or testosterone binding globulin level, which is a limitation of the study. The authors suggest that if the study had included these laboratory tests, it would have been better. The study combined with these laboratory parameters may lead to comprehensive prospective studies showing the relation between alopecia and urolithiasis.
