TLDR Caucasian hair is denser, but Asian hair is thicker in female pattern hair loss patients.
This study aimed to compare hair density and diameter in Caucasian and Asian female subjects with female pattern hair loss (FPHL) using the Folliscope. A total of 32 Caucasian and 13 Asian FPHL patients were recruited, and six locations on the scalp were chosen for analysis. The results showed that for both the treated and nontreated groups, Caucasian hair was significantly more dense than Asian hair in the occiput but not in the frontal scalp. However, in both frontal and occipital areas, Asian hair is thicker in diameter. The study also found that thyroid disease is more prevalent in women with sarcoidosis, with a prevalence of 26% in females and 25% in males tested.
