TLDR Apocynin may protect skin cells from aging and damage caused by UVB light.
The study investigated the protective effects of Apocynin, a NADPH oxidase inhibitor, against ultraviolet B (UVB)-induced cellular senescence in human keratinocytes. The researchers found that UVB exposure decreased the production of Type 17 collagen (COL17), a protein crucial for preventing skin aging, and increased cellular senescence. However, pretreatment with Apocynin restored COL17 production and reduced senescence, DNA damage, and cell cycle arrest. The study suggests that Apocynin can protect skin stem cells from aging by reducing DNA damage and senescence, and restoring COL17 production.
