TLDR Androgenetic alopecia significantly affects mental health and quality of life, highlighting the need for psychiatric evaluations.
This study examined 192 patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in Shanghai, revealing that 28.13% had borderline or abnormal anxiety and depression scores, as measured by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Significant correlations were found between these scores and quality of life (QoL) domains assessed by Hairdex, WHOQOL-BREF, and DLQI instruments. Factors such as younger age, being single, and lower education levels were associated with higher anxiety and depression scores. The findings emphasize the substantial impact of AGA on mental health and QoL, underscoring the need for psychiatric evaluations in these patients. The study also notes limitations due to its cross-sectional design and reliance on self-reported data.
