TLDR Geraniol effectively treats scabies and is safe for use.
The study explores the antiparasitic efficacy of geraniol, a compound from the Apiaceae family, in treating scabies. Geraniol showed strong acaricidal activity, achieving 100% mite mortality at a 6.25% concentration within 15 minutes in vitro. In vivo tests on 20 scabies-infected rabbits demonstrated complete clinical recovery and new hair growth within two weeks, with no adverse effects. These findings suggest that geraniol is a promising, safe, and eco-friendly alternative to synthetic acaricides, though further research is needed to explore delivery systems and conduct human clinical trials.
