Scabicidal Potential of Coconut Seed Extract in Rabbits via Downregulating Inflammatory/Immune Cross-Talk: A Comprehensive Phytochemical/GC-MS and In Silico Proof

The study investigated the potential of coconut seed extract (CSE) as a treatment for scabies in rabbits. The extract, containing 17 known compounds, improved all signs of infection when applied topically, with improvements starting 3 days post application. In vitro application resulted in 99% mite mortality 1 day post application. The extract suppressed certain inflammatory markers and upregulated others, suggesting its potential as an efficient, cost-effective, herbal-based alternative for scabies control. The study also demonstrated CSE's high affinity towards proteins involved in the mite's life cycle, particularly gondoic acid and a sugar compound. The fatty acids in CSE contributed to the fast recovery of the rabbits, reducing inflammation and promoting collagen formation for wound healing.
