TLDR Scabies affects 9.29% of rabbits in Kuala Lumpur, mostly with mild symptoms.
The study conducted at Kuala Lumpur Rabbit Farm aimed to determine the prevalence and severity of scabies, caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei, in rabbits. Out of 140 rabbits, 13 (9.29%) were found to be infected with scabies. The severity of the condition was categorized into two grades, mild and moderate, based on the affected body regions and clinical symptoms. Mild cases, which accounted for 69.32% of the infected rabbits, showed alopecia and crusting on the face, while moderate cases (30.78%) had symptoms on both the face and feet. The study concluded that scabies is present in the rabbit population at a prevalence of 9.29%, with the majority of cases being of low severity.
