The study investigated the effects of antioxidant vitamins on radiation-induced intestinal damage in Swiss Albino rats. Rats were divided into six groups, with one control group and five irradiated groups, each receiving different antioxidant supplements (vitamin A, C, E, or lycopene). Radiation exposure led to gastrointestinal toxicity, including malabsorption, diarrhea, weight loss, and hair loss, with altered activities of digestive enzymes. Antioxidant vitamins, particularly vitamin E, were effective in preventing changes in enzyme activities and minimizing intestinal damage, as evidenced by improved intestinal histology. The study concluded that antioxidant vitamin supplementation, especially vitamin E, was beneficial in reducing radiation-induced intestinal damage.
