TLDR There may be a link between hair loss and heart disease in women, but more research is needed.
This systematic review investigates the potential association between androgenic alopecia (AGA) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in women. The review includes ten observational studies, with six focusing solely on female participants. Two studies specifically examined the relationship between coronary artery disease (CAD) and AGA, finding a correlation between AGA and CAD, as well as previous myocardial infarction in women under 55. Additionally, women with AGA often displayed metabolic risk factors such as an unfavorable lipid profile, higher BMI, and increased hypertension rates. The review concludes that while there may be an association between AGA and ASCVD in women, there is a lack of high-quality evidence, and further rigorous prospective studies are needed to better understand this potential link.
