TLDR Androgenetic alopecia may improve meibum quality in eyes.
This study examined the effects of androgenetic alopecia on ocular health, specifically dry eye disease and meibomian gland dysfunction, in female patients. It included 28 eyes from patients with androgenetic alopecia and 32 eyes from healthy controls. The results showed no significant differences in dry eye parameters between the groups. However, the quality of meibum was significantly better in the androgenetic alopecia group (p=0.001). These findings highlight a complex hormonal interaction affecting the ocular surface and suggest the need for further research with larger sample sizes to better understand these implications.
