TLDR Dermatologists can use social media to better educate people about hair loss treatments.
Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) affects up to 75% of men and 50% of women by age 50, with only two FDA-approved treatments: topical minoxidil and finasteride. A study analyzed 78 social media posts on TikTok and Instagram using relevant hashtags to evaluate dermatologist contributions to AGA treatment content. Dermatologists created only 23% of these posts but had the highest average number of followers (305,695.35), suggesting they could effectively use these platforms to educate and engage a large audience. The study highlights the potential for dermatologists to improve awareness and education on AGA treatments through social media.
