TLDR Young men with hair loss may have a higher risk of insulin resistance and related health issues.
The study explored the association between androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and insulin resistance in young men, using a case-control design with 80 participants aged 18 to 35, matched for age and weight. It found a significant relationship between obesity, alopecia, and markers of insulin resistance, such as the HOMA index, lipids, and free testosterone. The findings suggested that young men with moderate to severe AGA, as classified by Hamilton-Norwood, should be evaluated for insulin resistance and related cardiovascular risks, as they may have an increased likelihood of developing conditions like hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and dyslipidemia later in life.
