TLDR Men with early-onset baldness may have a higher risk of heart disease.
The study from 2015 investigated the link between androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and early-onset coronary heart disease (CHD) in men under 50, involving 120 men with a positive exercise test for ischemic heart disease and 130 with a negative test. It found a significant correlation between AGA, particularly vertex pattern baldness, and a positive exercise test, with men with vertex baldness having a 1.5 times higher rate of positive tests. The study also noted significant associations between AGA and increased systolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and free testosterone levels. The findings suggest that vertex pattern baldness may contribute to atherosclerosis and CHD development, and men with early-onset baldness should be monitored for CHD and cardiac risk factors.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
