TLDR Non-surgical treatments can significantly reduce keloids in children, with combination therapies being safer and more effective.
The study investigates the management of keloids in children, focusing on both surgical and non-surgical treatments. Non-surgical treatments like intralesional triamcinolone acetonide (TCA) and Botulinum toxin Type A were found to reduce keloid volume by up to 80%, with combination therapies being safer and having fewer side effects for children. The study also suggests that anti-androgenic treatments, such as Finasteride or Combined Oral Contraceptives, may reduce skin inflammation and offer long-term benefits for those predisposed to keloids. These treatments could be particularly beneficial for individuals with Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome who develop keloids after gender-affirming surgeries. Further research is needed to better understand multimodal therapies for treating keloids in children.
