TLDR Women with keloid scars often have acne and hair loss, especially those with "true" keloids, indicating a possible hormonal imbalance.
The study investigated the relationship between androgen-dependent dermopathy (ADD) and keloid scars in 100 female patients aged 15-28. It differentiated between "true" keloids (47 patients) and "false" keloids (53 patients) and assessed the presence of hyperandrogenic skin conditions such as acne, seborrheic dermatitis, and androgenic alopecia. The findings revealed that acne was present in all patients with "true" keloids and 75.5% with "false" keloids, while androgenic alopecia was detected in 74.5% of "true" keloid cases and 71.7% of "false" keloid cases. The study concluded that acne and androgenic alopecia are common ADDs in women with keloid scars, with a higher prevalence in those with "true" keloids, suggesting that hyperandrogenic skin conditions may be risk factors for keloids and indicative of hormonal imbalance in these patients.
