TLDR Vitamin E, alone or with yeast, helped reduce arsenic poisoning effects in young goats.
The study evaluated the mitigation strategy of arsenic toxicity in Black Bengal kids (young goats) through dietary supplementation such as vitamin E or yeast culture (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) or a combination of both. Arsenic, in the form of sodium arsenite, at 50 mg/kg DM of feed, decreased DM intake and growth rate in these goats. However, supplementation of vitamin E or yeast culture or a combination of both compensated for the growth and voluntary intake of DM and CP in the goats challenged with arsenic. Similarly, feed conversion efficiency in the goats was also restored by these treatments. Arsenic load in faeces, hair, and urine were increased due to arsenic toxicity induction, which were reduced to normal levels by the treatments.
