TLDR Finasteride treatment makes the prostate look more like a healthy one.
This study investigated the effects of alpha-blockers and 5-alpha reductase inhibitors on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) by examining morphological and immunohistochemical changes in the prostate. The research involved a sample of male subjects from Campo de Gibraltar, divided into four groups: a control group, BPH patients treated with alpha-blockers, those treated with 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, and patients who underwent surgery without prior medical treatment. Key findings included an average patient age of 68 years and a mean PSA value of 2.6 ng/dl. The stroma-epithelium ratio varied across groups, with the most significant change observed in the group treated with 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, where the glandular epithelium resembled that of healthy prostates.
