TLDR Alopecia X in Pomeranians is likely genetic, not environmental.
A case report describes a two-year-old Pomeranian dog with Alopecia X that was cloned after its accidental death. Despite being castrated earlier, the cloned dog developed the same Alopecia X lesions at the same age as the original dog. This suggests that Alopecia X is likely due to a genetically programmed hair cycle arrest, rather than environmental factors.
