TLDR Deslorelin effectively treats alopecia X in dogs.
Alopecia X is a dermatological condition with unclear etiology, commonly seen in Nordic dog breeds. This study reports a case of a 7-year-old female German Spitz with progressive alopecia over 3 years. Laboratory tests ruled out endocrinopathies, supporting the diagnosis of alopecia X. Initial treatment included melatonin, essential fatty acids, nutritional supplements, and therapeutic shampoos. The introduction of deslorelin (Suprelorin®) led to visible hair regrowth after 60 days. The case emphasizes the importance of differential diagnosis and demonstrates the effectiveness and safety of deslorelin as a therapeutic option for alopecia X, highlighting the need for precise diagnosis and continuous updates in veterinary dermatology.
