No Increased Risk of Alopecia in Ankylosing Spondylitis Patients: A Population-Based Cohort Study in Taiwan

    TLDR People with ankylosing spondylitis in Taiwan don't have a higher chance of getting alopecia.
    The population-based cohort study, which analyzed data from over 1,000,000 patients in the Taiwan Longitudinal Health Insurance Database, found no increased risk of alopecia in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS). The study included 3,640 AS patients and 14,560 non-AS controls. The results showed no significant increase in alopecia risk in AS patients (crude HR 1.16, P = 0.595; adjusted HR 1.16, P = 0.599), even in subgroup analysis of different age, sex, and phenotypes of alopecia. However, a significant positive correlation was found between atopic dermatitis and alopecia (adjusted HR 8.05, P = 0.039).
