TLDR Enhancing melanin's energy generation may help treat alopecia areata.
The study explored the role of melanin in transforming light into chemical energy and its potential therapeutic effects on alopecia areata, an autoimmune hair-loss disorder. A female patient treated with QIAPI 1 showed encouraging results, suggesting that enhancing melanin's energy generation could offer new treatment avenues for autoimmune conditions like alopecia areata. This was the first report to indicate melanin's potential in this context.
