TLDR Aloe vera and lemon extracts can significantly reduce acne, especially when used together.
The study investigated the antibacterial effects of Aloe vera and Citrus lemon extracts against Propionibacterium acnes, a bacterium responsible for acne vulgaris. Using both in-vitro and in-vivo models, the research found that Aloe vera and Citrus lemon extracts exhibited significant antibacterial activity, with inhibition zones ranging from 12 to 23 mm and 13 to 21 mm, respectively. When used in combination, the extracts showed enhanced inhibition zones of up to 24 mm. In-vivo results demonstrated a 61% reduction in acne with Aloe vera, 51% with Citrus lemon, and 67% when combined. The study concludes that these plant extracts, particularly when used together, have substantial potential for treating acne, warranting further investigation into their phytochemical constituents for therapeutic applications.
