TLDR Cyclophosphamide often causes gastrointestinal issues, hair loss, and low blood cell counts in Chinese patients with autoimmune diseases.
This retrospective study investigated the adverse reactions to cyclophosphamide (CYC) in 419 Chinese patients with systemic autoimmune diseases over a decade. The study found that the most common adverse effects were gastrointestinal discomfort (21.5%), alopecia (12.4%), and myelosuppression (7.4%). Significant risk factors included female gender and intravenous administration for gastrointestinal discomfort and alopecia, and older age for menstrual disturbances. Notably, no cases of hemorrhagic cystitis were observed, possibly due to prophylactic hydration and racial differences. The study highlighted the importance of monitoring and managing these adverse effects in clinical practice.
