TLDR COVID-19 infection may cause hair loss.
The study "Acute Telogen Effluvium: A Post-COVID-19 Sequela" conducted a cross-sectional survey of 114 COVID-19-positive patients in South India to investigate the presence of hair loss post-infection. The results showed that 72% of the patients reported hair loss, with 54.4% noticing worsening hair loss after COVID-19 infection. The majority (66.7%) noticed worsening hair loss after 3 weeks of infection. The study also found that 61.4% of the patients reported excessive shedding of hair and 51.8% experienced thinning of hair over the scalp. The study concluded that COVID-19 infection could be a potential cause of hair loss, and recognizing this could help in educating patients about the transient nature of the condition. However, the study did not follow up with patients for recovery from Telogen Effluvium (TE).
