TLDR Encapsulated retinol may effectively treat actinic keratosis without side effects.
A case report describes a 64-year-old male with actinic keratosis on the scalp treated with a dermocosmetic formulation of retinol encapsulated in a poly-L-lysine biovector. The treatment involved applying a pea-sized amount twice daily, delivering approximately 1280 IU of vitamin A per day. After 21 days, the lesion completely regressed, and partial hair regrowth was observed, with no adverse effects reported. This suggests that encapsulated retinol could be a promising, non-aggressive treatment for actinic keratosis, though larger clinical studies are needed to confirm its efficacy and safety.
