    TLDR *Acorus calamus* has many medicinal benefits but needs more safety research.
    The review on *Acorus calamus* highlighted its extensive use in traditional medicine for treating various ailments and its rich phytochemical composition, including phenyl propanoids, sesquiterpenes, and monoterpenes. Scientific studies confirmed its anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer, anti-diabetic, anti-microbial, and neuroprotective effects. The plant exhibited significant antifungal, antibacterial, insecticidal, and anti-cancer properties, with key compounds like ß-asarone modulating biological pathways. Despite its benefits, concerns about the safety of asarone necessitated further research. Overall, *Acorus calamus* showed promise for developing novel therapeutics for various diseases.
