Article Review: Myrtus Communis Linn and Its Medical and Biological Uses

    Myrtus communis Linn, from the Myrtaceae family, was recognized as a highly effective medicinal plant used globally. Known as Aas, its berries called Habb-ulAas, and other parts of the plant were utilized for treating various conditions such as gastric ulcers, diarrhea, dysentery, vomiting, rheumatism, hemorrhage, deep sinuses, leucorrhoea, and hair loss. Additionally, the plant's components were used in food and wine flavoring and as a food integrator due to their high vitamin content. It produced numerous biologically active substances, including tannins, flavonoids, coumarins, essential oils, fibers, carbohydrates, citric acid, malic acid, and antioxidants. The review provided an overview of its ethno-medical applications, chemical components, and pharmaceutical profile.
