TLDR Myrtle essential oil has a higher antioxidant capacity than orange essential oil.
The research investigated the antioxidant capacities of essential oils from oranges (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck) and myrtle (Myrtus communis L.), both of which are commonly used for medicinal purposes in the Adana region. Oranges, rich in Vitamin C, have been used to treat various health issues, while myrtle has a wide range of pharmacological and therapeutic activities, including hair loss control. Both plants contain a variety of beneficial compounds. The study used the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay to test the antioxidant properties of the essential oils from these plants. The results showed that both myrtle and orange extracts have substantial antioxidant properties, with myrtle essential oil demonstrating a higher antioxidant activity than orange essential oil.
