TLDR Borneol Essential Oil could be a natural and safe acne treatment.
The document presents a study on the effectiveness of Cinnamomum Camphora Chvar. Borneol Essential Oil (BEO) in treating acne, using both in vitro and in vivo approaches. The in vitro study used human keratinocyte cells and showed that BEO inhibited cell proliferation and reduced inflammatory mediators TNF-α and IL-1β in a dose-dependent manner. Network pharmacology analysis indicated that BEO's anti-acne effects involve multiple components, targets, and pathways. The in vivo study, conducted with a rabbit ear acne model, demonstrated that BEO significantly lessened acne severity and inflammation, and regulated the TLR2/PI3K-AKT/NF-kB signaling pathway. The study, with a sample size of n = 6 for in vitro experiments, concluded that BEO has potential as a natural and safe anti-inflammatory skin preparation for acne treatment, providing an alternative to conventional treatments with antibiotics and synthetic agents.
