Treatment of Acne Scar Contraction Using Autologous Cultured Epithelial Sheet Transplantation: A Report of Four Cases

The study explores the use of autologous cultured epithelial sheet transplantation in four patients to treat acne scar contraction, showing improvement in scarring and skin texture three months post-grafting. The method involves grafting epithelial sheets that secrete proteases to metabolize excess collagen, reducing scar contracture. This single-session procedure effectively improved crater-shaped and ice pick-like scars, presenting a promising alternative to traditional treatments like chemical peels and laser therapy. While the results are promising, they are based on a small sample size, and further randomized controlled trials are needed to evaluate long-term efficacy and compare it to standard therapies.
