TLDR New 5% minoxidil foam effectively promotes hair growth and is safe for use.
This study tested the efficacy and safety of a new 5% minoxidil topical foam in men with androgenetic alopecia. The trial involved 352 men and lasted for 16 weeks, with 143 subjects continuing on an open-label phase to collect 52 weeks of safety information on 5% MTF. The results showed that the 5% MTF was effective in promoting hair growth and was well-tolerated by the participants. The study led to the approval of 5% MTF for over-the-counter use in 2006.
