TLDR Trichoscopy helps diagnose and track alopecia areata by examining specific hair and scalp markers.
Trichoscopy is a valuable non-invasive diagnostic tool for alopecia areata (AA), utilizing markers like exclamation mark hairs, black dots, and yellow dots to assess disease activity and chronicity. Yellow dots are common in long-standing cases, while short vellus hairs and upright regrowing hairs indicate hair regrowth. This method effectively evaluates the severity and duration of AA, distinguishing between active and chronic forms, and offers a comprehensive view of the condition's progression and treatment response.
