    The study investigated the potential of prenatal transplantation of epidermal neural crest stem cells (EPI-NCSCs) derived from hair follicles in treating malformations of cortical development (MCD) in a mouse model. Mice exposed to methylazoxymethanol (MAM) showed reduced thickness in various cerebral cortex areas and the corpus callosum. However, prenatal infusion of EPI-NCSCs led to a significant increase in cortical thickness, except for the corpus callosum. Real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry analyses indicated altered expression of neural and glial markers, suggesting that EPI-NCSCs could be a promising candidate for cell-based therapy of cortical injuries by influencing neural markers and their interaction with glial cells.
