    The study concluded that overexpression of hepatoma-derived growth factor (HDGF) in melanocytes did not lead to oncogenic transformation. Despite generating transgenic mice overexpressing HDGF and subjecting them to tumor-promoting conditions, no melanomas or melanocytic lesions were observed. The findings indicated that HDGF overexpression alone was insufficient to induce cancerous changes in melanocytes, although HDGF might play a role in cell differentiation and tumor progression after secondary upregulation.
