Pathologic Quiz Case: A 69-Year-Old Man With a Brown-Black Facial Papule

Marcelo G. Horenstein, Andrea G. Kahn
TLDR A rare benign skin growth called melanocytic matricoma was identified in a 69-year-old man.
The document described a case of a 69-year-old man with a brown-black facial papule diagnosed as melanocytic matricoma, a rare and recently recognized benign pigmented papule found in sun-damaged skin of older individuals. Histologically, it was characterized by a dual cell population of matrical and supramatrical cells mixed with dendritic melanocytes. The lesion was well-circumscribed, small, and surrounded by a fibrous capsule, with no recurrence noted after 9 months. Melanocytic matricoma was distinct from pilomatricoma and other similar neoplasms, and its recognition was important for differential diagnosis from malignant tumors like melanoma. Only 5 cases had been reported by the time of this publication, highlighting its rarity.

in Minoxidil  58 upvotes 2 years ago
The post discusses the difference in effects of Minoxidil (Min) on scalp and facial hair. The user questions why Min-induced hair growth on the scalp is temporary, while facial hair growth seems permanent, even after stopping Min. They propose theories, including different Min mechanisms on body and facial hair, the role of DHT, and the possibility of not achieving fully terminal hair. The responses include personal experiences and theories about Min's effects on hair growth.
