TLDR Finasteride treatment increased blood volume and reduced vessel leakiness in beagle prostates.
This study focused on evaluating perfusion parameters in beagles with benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) using dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI and assessing the effects of finasteride treatment. Twelve male beagles were divided into control and treatment groups, with the latter receiving 1 mg/kg of finasteride daily. The DCE MRI revealed two distinct zones in the prostate: a highly vascularized periurethral zone and a moderately vascularized parenchymal zone. During finasteride treatment, the parenchymal zone showed increased intensity of enhancement and time to maximum signal enhancement, while the exchange rate decreased. These findings indicated increased blood volume and decreased vessel leakiness in the prostate during successful treatment.
