TLDR The combination of the excimer lamp and liquor carbonis detergens is more effective for scalp psoriasis than the lamp alone.
This study compared the efficacy and safety of 308-nm excimer lamp monotherapy versus a combination of the lamp and 10% liquor carbonis detergens in treating scalp psoriasis in 30 patients. Both treatments significantly improved the Psoriasis Scalp Severity Index (PSSI) score, but the combination therapy showed greater efficacy. By the 30th session, 75% reduction in PSSI was achieved by 28.6% of patients with monotherapy and 69.2% with combination therapy, indicating that the addition of liquor carbonis detergens enhanced the effectiveness of the excimer lamp. The excimer lamp was well-tolerated, and the combination therapy was recommended for improved outcomes.
