TLDR A method was created in 2012 to accurately and precisely measure tamsulosin and finasteride in medicine using second derivative spectrophotometric method.
In 2012, a simple and reliable second derivative spectrophotometric method was developed and validated for the simultaneous estimation of tamsulosin and finasteride in bulk and pharmaceutical formulations. The quantitative determination of the drugs was carried out using the second derivative values measured at 239 nm and 232 nm for tamsulosin and finasteride respectively. The solutions of standard and the sample were prepared in methanol. The calibration graphs constructed at their wavelengths of determination were linear in the concentration range of 1-8 µg ml-1 for tamsulosin and 12.5-100 µg ml-1 for finasteride. The low relative standard deviation values indicate good precision and high recovery values indicate accuracy of the proposed method. The developed method was found to be simple, accurate, precise, specific, sensitive, and reproducible, and could be directly and easily applied to pharmaceutical dosage forms.

A 35-year-old started finasteride in 2014 for hair loss and maintained hair density for 7 years, occasionally using ketoconazole shampoo. Switched to dutasteride in 2022 due to increased hair fall, experimented with dosages, and found a combination with tamsulosin effective despite initial adverse reactions.

The user shared a 3.5-year hair loss treatment journey, starting with daily finasteride and oral minoxidil, then switching to finasteride 4 times a week and daily topical minoxidil. After about 2 years and 9 months, they added Dutasteride and Tamsulosin Hydrochloride to their regimen, but reduced the frequency due to side effects, and are currently satisfied with the results.

Dutasteride is associated with increased blood glucose, HbA1c, LDL cholesterol, and liver enzyme activity, potentially leading to diabetes, NAFLD, and liver metabolism changes. The conversation highlights concerns about these adverse effects and calls for more studies, including on finasteride.
