TLDR A specific gene variation in goats is linked to better growth traits.
The study examined a 22-bp insertion/deletion (InDel) polymorphism in the FGF7 gene and its association with growth traits in 396 goats from Fuqing, Nubian, and Jianyang Daer breeds. It found that goats with II and ID genotypes had better growth traits than those with the DD genotype. The FGF7 gene, highly expressed in adipose tissue, is linked to fat deposition, indicating its potential as a molecular marker for enhancing growth traits in goat breeding programs.
